Writing sci-fi and graphic novels
An online workshop with renowned sci-fi author, Lisa Tuttle.
Lisa says, "I will begin by talking a bit about my journey as a writer – how I began to where I am today.
But what I really hope to do is to help other writers, whether you are just starting out, or wanting some advice for how to make progress, so next I’ll talk about a few things a lot of us have wondered about or struggled with: getting ideas, turning that idea into a story, what is meant by “the writer’s voice”, style, plot and the importance of point of view.
I am also open to more topics, if those attending would like to suggest some in advance. I wil also be very happy to answer questions, whether general or specific."

About Lisa
Lisa Tuttle sold her first short story before her nineteenth birthday, after spending six weeks at the Clarion Science Fiction Writers Workshop. A few years later, she won an award as “best new science fiction writer of the year”.
Her first novel was written in collaboration with George R.R. Martin – who had also been nominated for the title of “best new science fiction writer” the year before–and lost. That novel, Windhaven, was published in 1980.
Lisa went on to write ten other novels, most recently three supernatural detective novels set in the 1890s (The Curious Affair of the Somnambulist and the Psychic Thief; The Curious Affair of the Witch at Wayside Cross; The Curious Affair of the Missing Mummies) and more than 100 short stories, as well as books for children and non-fiction.
She wrote the script for the adaptation of Windhaven as a graphic novel, edited two anthologies, and is the author of a writing handbook (Writing Fantasy & Science Fiction), has worked as a journalist and a library assistant, and been a tutor at writing workshops in the UK and the United States.
