Fourth OH!CON is out of this world! (released 14 October 2025)

Hundreds of people poured into An Lanntair and Stornoway Town Hall last Saturday (11th October) to take part in OH!CON, the Outer Hebrides Comic Con. The annual event is now established as a firm favourite with local fans of sci-fi, fantasy, comics and games, but this year saw attendees from as far afield as America, Canada and the Netherlands.

OH!CON director, Hereward Proops, said: “The team have put in a massive amount of work this year to make this the best OH!CON yet, and there have been so many highlights.

"Jim Parkyn, model maker from Aardman Animation, inspired folk of all ages to create monsters, heroes and villains out of plasticine as well as an amazing super-large plasticine work of art.

"Celebrated fantasy and science fiction writer, Jasper Fforde, travelled up from Wales to talk about his books and writing. Comic creator, Edward Ross, and games writer, Thomas Welsh, shared their skills and knowledge on creating games and comics, at a series of workshops for children and adults."

The ever-popular cosplay masquerades, compered by comedian Rik Carranza, took centre stage and saw the largest number of entrants to date. Prizes were awarded to the best crafted and most creative costumes.

The annual writing and art competitions were also popular, and showcased a huge range of local talent and imagination from across the islands.

For those not able to attend in person, many of the talks were live-streamed on the day by local business, Kijach Streaming Services, and will be available to view via the OH!CON website (www.ohcon.info) shortly.

The event raised over £1000 for three local charities; The Leanne Fund, Neuro Hebrides, and WISCK.
