Tickets for OH!CON now on sale (released: 18 Sept 2023)

Tickets for OH!CON, the Outer Hebrides comic con, have gone on sale. The con, now in its second year, is being held on 14 October at the Stornoway campus of UHI North West Hebrides.

Celebrating the best in sci-fi, fantasy, comics and games, this year’s OH!CON promises to be bigger and better with even more talks, workshops and activities on offer for people of all ages.

This year’s guest list includes comic and manga artists, science fiction and fantasy writers, and Scottish comedian and self-confessed geek, Rik Carranza.

Hereward Proops, one of the OH!CON organisers, said, ‘We have a fantastic line-up this year. As well as our fabulous guests who’ll be talking and presenting interactive workshops, we have loads of drop-in activities including tabletop gaming, role-playing sessions, virtual reality devices, green screen photography, Lego building, animation and more. Local author GR Jordan is joining us to run an interactive gaming session based on an alien invasion of Stornoway. It’ll be a lot of fun.

We’re also running our OH!CON art gallery again this year. Anyone who creates sci-fi or fantasy art or comics is invited to submit work for display. We’ll be giving prizes for the best pieces as judged by our guest artists. It’s a great way for artists to get their work seen by industry professionals.’

OH!CON is entirely organised and run by a team of volunteers. Anyone wanting to get involved in helping to run OH!CON can contact the team via the website (www.ohcon.info) or on social media.

 Notes for editors

OH!CON’s guests this year include comic artists Tom Foster and Tom Humberstone; science fiction author, Ken Macleod; Manga artist and writer Irina Richards; comedian and geek, Rik Carranza; artist and teacher, Gary Erskine and publisher/artist and founder of the Glasgow Comic Con, Sha Nazir.

OH!CON is run by a spectacular team of volunteers, and supported through partnerships with An Lanntair, and UHI North West Hebrides.  We are also extremely grateful to Creative Scotland, the Point and Sandwick Trust, the Scottish Book Trust, UHI North West Hebrides, Maoin nan Ealan Gàidhlig, Gateway Nerds, Western Isles Wargamers, the Baltic Bookshop and Tech Mobile for their support.

Tickets for OH!CON are available from the OH!CON website www.ohcon.info – A day ticket allows access to all talks, exhibitions, vendors and drop-in sessions throughout the day. Some smaller activities do need to be booked in advance due to limited space and the workshops are also available to all for a nominal extra charge.

OH!CON 2023 is coming (released: 30 May 2023)

OH!CON: The Outer Hebrides’ ComicCon will be back on Saturday 14 October 2023, celebrating all that is good in comics, games, sci-fi and fantasy. This year the con will be taking over the UHI Outer Hebrides campus in Stornoway, to provide even more activities for people of all ages.

The first OH!CON, held in 2022, spectacularly sold out within two weeks of tickets being available, and this year’s con will be even bigger and better.

As well as a series of fun and creative activities, such as LEGO, table-top gaming, animation and VR, OH!CON will feature a range of talks and workshops from invited guests. This year OH!CON will feature activities in Gaelic as well as English.

Heather Hamilton, one of the directors of OH!CON, said,

“Last year we were blown away by the enthusiasm and level of participation for the first OH!CON. It showed that there is definitely a massive local interest in comic con culture and it was fabulous to see people of all ages coming together to come in cosplay, try out new things, and have fun!”

OH!CON is working in partnership with UHI Outer Hebrides, An Lanntair and Taigh Chearsabagh to provide a range of events across the islands.

Hannah Ritchie-Muir, Principal and CEO, of UHI Outer Hebrides said,

“ Following the huge success of OH!CON in 2022, we are delighted to welcome the event to UHI Outer Hebrides for 2023; providing a bigger venue for more fun and activities. We understand the importance of the Creative Industries for our local community and economy.  Our staff will  provide information and talks on careers and training opportunities as part of the event.”

OH!CON is planned and run by a team of passionately dedicated and hard-working volunteers. Any individuals or organisations who’d like to be part of the team and help to deliver this year’s con can find out more on the OH!CON website at www.ohcon.info or by contacting the team on social media. There’s lots to do, from looking after Daleks to helping with art and craft activities or running talks and workshops!

Tickets for this year’s OH!CON will go on sale in the summer. For more information visit the OH!CON website and follow us on social media to keep up to date.
